David Moyes opens up on West Ham departure and it may shock fans

For the first time since the announcement, David Moyes has discussed his upcoming exit from West Ham, and it may surprise supporters.

For David Moyes and West Ham, it marks the end of an era.

After four and a half years of his second stint with the team, the Hammers play their last home game under the Scot.

For the past four months, Moyes has maintained that he is the one holding off on agreeing to a new contract with West Ham.

However, the results have been so dismal that a huge shade reminiscent of Julen Lopetegui has been put over his future.

Moyes opens up on West Ham departure

Moyes insisted no decision would be made until the end of the season just last week, despite widespread media rumors he will be replaced.

What’s possibly more intriguing is that he expressed a desire to manage West Ham past the summer.

All of that was resolved on Monday when West Ham formally declared Moyes’ departure from the team.

Chelsea reportedly could deal West Ham major summer blow by signing 16 goal/assist winger

Generic statements were put out by the club in the statement.

But now Moyes has opened up on his West Ham departure and it may shock fans.

The departing Hammers manager has faced the press in his pre-Luton conference.

Many may have expected the Scot to state West Ham were making a mistake or that he feels hard done by.

West Ham United Manager David Moyes is congratulated by chairman David Sullivan at the end of the UEFA Europa Conference League 2022/23 final match...

Right decision for all concerned says Moyes

Rather, he has acknowledged that it is the “appropriate choice for all stakeholders.”

“I feel very at ease in this circumstance,” Moyes remarked.

“My family and I have discussed it, and I believe it to be the best course of action for everyone.

We’ll part ways following a tremendously fruitful time.

“I’ll take a break first. Following the UEFA Europa Conference League final, there wasn’t much of a break the previous year. I’m going to take a break because I always do my utmost to work here, and I’ve done it.

“I’m going to work throughout the Euros and I’m still excited about working in football.”

It was challenging to prevent the club from being demoted a second time, but we’ve come a long way since then.

“I think we’ve done a really good job, we’ve built the Club, and there’s stability there now.”

Moyes earned the moniker the Moyesiah so good was the job he has done at West Ham.

    Thank you David Moyes

Nobody could argue with that, whatever of your feelings toward the Hammers manager and some aspects of the football over the past few seasons.

Over the past four and a half years, the manager has given West Ham his all.

He restored much-needed pride to this football team despite working long hours and living hundreds of miles away from his wife.

When he came back to replace Manuel Pellegrini, West Ham was a laughingstock.

After pulling the entire team up by its bootstraps and inspiring them to fight for the fans and the badge once more, Moyes successfully prevented West Ham from facing relegation a second time.

After sixth and seventh place finishes, rewarded with the first major title in 43 years, came three years of European football.

But good things always come to an end.

Fans of West Ham will also have the opportunity to give him the sendoff he deserves on Saturday.

Here are the plans the club has for the big day at the London Stadium.
