England: Alexander-Arnold dropped by Southgate as Ornstein reveals his replacement for Slovenia
Trent Alexander-Arnold, a star player for Liverpool, will not start for England against Slovenia on Tuesday night, according to a report by David Ornstein of The Athletic.
In England’s opening two Euro 2024 group games, Southgate controversially decided to start Alexander-Arnold alongside Declan Rice of Arsenal as a center-midfielder.

After 53 minutes of play against Denmark, the 25-year-old was hauled off, and Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, who also struggled, took his place.
After Alexander-Arnold’slacklusterperformance against Denmark, it was expected that Southgate would call it quits on the experiment. According to Ornstein, Gallagher will start in place of Alexander-Arnold for England’s Group C match against Slovenia.
“England manager Gareth Southgate is set to make a change to his midfield for Tuesday’s final group game at Euro 2024,” Ornstein wrote. “Trent Alexander-Arnold will be replaced by Conor Gallagher.”
In both group matches, Gallagher came in for Alexander-Arnold, and the 24-year-old Chelsea academy alum is now anticipated to start.
“Southgate suggests his Slovenia selection is not necessarily a sign of things to come if England advance further. He changed his starting lineup in the third fixture of his three previous major tournaments and adjusted it again for the first knockout round each time.”
Alexander-Arnold’ssupporterRice has sprung to his defense, stating that the Liverpool player “can play in midfield.”
