The two players who have just missed Leeds United’s pre-season friendly victory over Hannover with injury

Leeds United’s second summertime friendlies are already over.

As part of their preseason tour, the Whites are now in Germany; but, because of regulations imposed by the German government, the games are being played behind closed doors, making live reporting impossible.

Daniel Farke’s team defeated Harrogate Town 3-0 on Friday to start the preseason, and they followed it up with another convincing success over Hannover.

Leeds defeated the German team 4-1 thanks to goals from Ilia Gruev, Joel Piroe, and Mateo Joseph (2). Farke chose a solid team for Leeds.

Brenden Aaronson and Jayden Bogle, the former making his first appearance after returning from a loan, and the latter making his debut, were among those who contributed assists. In the middle, Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev got the start together. Wilfried Gnonto, Georginio Rutter, Brenden Aaronson, and Piroe completed the starting lineup.

A number of players came off the bench throughout the game, including Charlie Crew, Harry Gray, Joe Rothwell, Joe Gelhardt, Crysencio Summerville, and Joseph.

The only substitutes not utilized were Alex Cairns, Luca Thomas, and Sam Chambers, which meant that Dan James and Patrick Bamford were the two injured players not included in the starting lineup.

The latter is still having his workload controlled following surgery during the summer, while the former was allegedly absent due to a “slight adductor niggle.” Both intend to participate in the upcoming friendly.

Leeds would do well to move Bamford on this summer

Even if Leeds are supposedly willing to let Bamford go this summer, a transfer is not likely to happen.

Who wants to risk it all on Bamford, who will once again enter a fresh season in less than optimal physical condition?

Fortunately, Leeds seems to have a hot striker in reserve who is prepared to replace Joseph.

It’s encouraging to learn that Leeds’ top player this afternoon scored twice after being the team’s best player on Friday night without scoring.
