Leeds United star shortlisted for presitgious PFA award

Rutter is on the shortlist for the PFA Championship Player of the Year award, along with former Whites teammate Crysencio Summerville.

Georginio Rutter of Leeds United and Crysencio Summerville, a former teammate, have been shortlisted for the Professional Footballers’ Association Championship Player of the Year award.

The Whites forward is expected to play a major role in Daniel Farke’s team’s promotion push after putting on an incredible preseason display. His performance in 2023–24 earned him a spot on the six-man shortlist for the prize, indicating that he has continued where he left off from the previous season.

He and Summerville, who signed a £25 million contract with West Ham United last weekend, are among the nominees, along with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, the former midfielder for Leicester City who is currently at Chelsea, Leif Davis of Ipswich, Southampton’s Adam Armstrong, and Sammie Szmodics of Blackburn.

Rutter provided Leeds with 15 assists last season, while Summerville had an outstanding season, hitting 21 goals in all competitions for the Elland Road team before leaving earlier this month to join West Ham.

Davis set up 18 goals as Ipswich claimed the second automatic promotion slot, while Armstrong got the solitary goal in the play-off final for Southampton against Leeds. The 27-year-old struck 24 league and play-off goals for Saints last season, a record which left him second only behind Szmodics in the Championship scoring charts. In March, he made his debut for the Republic of Ireland on the international scene. He struck 27 for Rovers the previous season.

On August 20, at the PFA Player of the Year Awards ceremony in Manchester, the winner will be revealed.
