To the delight of head coach Ryan Perks, Argyle defeated Maidenhead United 4-1 on Sunday to advance to the FA Women’s National League Cup second round.

At York Road, goals from Ellie Sara, Ava Kuyken, Charlotte Whitmore, and Katie Dickson gave the team the victory over Division One South West.

Perks was hoping to take some confidence from the game because his team had a big league match against Lewes coming up the following weekend, and he is pleased with the way his team performed overall.

Perks told Argyle TV, “I’m really pleased.” “We played well and scored a few goals, but we are a little unhappy with the goal we gave up. The girls’ attempts to put what we learnt in training into practice during the week was admirable, though.

“The trip up here was somewhat lengthy. Although the first half’s ascent seemed to sap some of the legs’ vitality, we left Plymouth at seven this morning in order to move on to the next round, which we did today.

Football games that are won foster confidence. Both in the league and the cup, we’ve made a passable start. We hope that this weekend will bring additional points to the league scoreboard. A few players will return. Georgia Wilson and Taya Pomfret are absent. We merely rested Imy [Crawford] today, so they will be able to rejoin the team in the future. Next week, we have to get to Lewes with good travel and win three points.

We are at that point. Next week, that’s what we’re going for and what we want to accomplish.

We had great ball control and executed some really good football. Maidenhead only truly caused us trouble when we gave up the ball and occasionally made a poor decision with the ball, but those things happen.

“I believe that last week we didn’t receive the credit we deserved, and today we may have performed mediocrely but still managed to win. In cup football, advancement is key. Once we’ve completed it, we go on to the next phase.

Perks felt that his team could have scored more goals in the ninety minutes against Maidenhead, even if they did score four goals and control the attacking stages of the match.

We scored four goals, but there should have been a lot more, he stated. We probably had five or six excellent opportunities to score goals in addition to the goals, but we didn’t take them. I may be too harsh on the players, but there is still work to be done in front of the goal.

Comfort Erhabor, a Brighton loanee, scored her Greens goal debut. Though Perks is aware that it may take some getting acclimated to the new surroundings and system, he was pleased with what he saw.

Perks stated, “It will take some time to get along with the players and for the players to get used to Comfort as well.” Although we weren’t able to get her the clean sheet, it would have been lovely. Her decision-making was good, and I felt she distributed spells well. Lily didn’t play today, so I’ll have to make a difficult choice the following week.
