Ex-Hibs star says Rangers man is ‘done’ at Ibrox while Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin addresses ‘title upset’ talk

This weekend’s Scottish Premiership headlines pertaining to Hearts and Hibs rivals are included here.

This weekend will see the return of Scottish Premiership action, with Hibs gearing up to be among the first to play. In an effort to rise from the bottom of the table, they will host Motherwell at Easter Road on Sunday while Hearts prepare to play Aberdeen.

We’ve compiled the most recent Premiership news, including the implications of the midweek European matchups, as the action develops.

    Rangers star ‘done’ at Ibrox

Rangers intended to keep winning against Lyon in the Europa League after their thrilling victory over Hibs over the weekend. But the Gers’ performance, especially in defence, has been the subject of much discussion following a painful 4-1 loss.

After Lyon’s fourth goal, James Tavernier faced criticism. The Rangers skipper was unable to shut off the threat and deal with his man, allowing Lyon’s Malick Fofana to score at the back post from close range. Tam McManus, a former Hibs player, has commented on Tavernier’s performance, which has drawn criticism.

The former Hibs forward said, “He is done mate,” in response to a fan who said in a tweet that McManus is “always sleeping.”

Over the summer, Tavernier’s remarkable return of 24 goals and 12 assists raised rumours that he would be leaving Ibrox. But the captain dismissed transfer rumours, even though Turkey showed interest.

Thelin shuts down ‘title upset’ talks

Aberdeen has had a fantastic start to the 2024–25 campaign and is putting a lot of pressure on both Celtic and Rangers thus far. The Dons will want to dismantle Hearts to continue this amazing run as they are tied with Celtic on points, behind only on goal differential.

Alan Shearer acknowledged that he believes Aberdeen is “serious” about perhaps upsetting the two Glasgow giants, despite the fact that many have been debating whether or not they are true title challengers.

Jimmy Thelin has put an early stop to talk of his team beating Rangers and Celtic to win any hardware at this early point in the season.

He stated, “We haven’t won anything yet.” “While I can appreciate the conversation, how many games are still left in the league? As you can see, a significant number of points remain. We are not concentrating on that at this early hour. All that matters is that we strive to improve and play the games, not what is going to happen in May. It is really far away.
