Plymouth Argyle: Joe Edwards issues message to supporters after 5-0 Cardiff humiliation
Following his team’s crushing 5-0 loss to Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon, Joe Edwards, the captain of Plymouth Argyle, has apologised to the fans.
The Pilgrims had emerged victorious from their previous three games before the international break, so the Argyle supporters would have been full of excitement as they arrived in South Wales.
However, before yesterday’s crushing victory over Wayne Rooney’s team, the Bluebirds could only claim one victory this season.
But in the end, on a challenging afternoon for the travelling Pilgrims, Cardiff emerged victorious.
Alex Robertson gave the home team the lead after 16 minutes, and eight minutes later, Wales international Rubin Colwill doubled the Bluebirds’ advantage.
Then, only five minutes before halftime, Argyle’s Ibrahim Cissoko was sent off, which let loose a wild Cardiff team. Anwar El Ghazi, Callum Robinson, and Chris Willock would go on to score three goals in the second half.

Following the outcome, Pilgrims captain Joe Edwards apologised to all of the travellers on X, posting on social media: “Unacceptable and no excuse, I want to apologise to everyone who travelled today.”
“You deserved so much more, simply not good enough.”

Rooney and company will be desperate to stay out of the bottom three, and Tuesday night’s match between Cardiff, in 22nd place, and Portsmouth, in 23rd, might prove problematic for teams like Argyle.
On Wednesday night, the Pilgrims will visit Millwall to play the Lions, who are currently one spot and one point lower in the Championship standings than them.
A defeat in South Wales on Saturday would be made more worse if Argyle were to stumble against the struggling Lions; on the other hand, a triumph in London would be the ideal solution.
When Argyle plays Preston North End after their match against Millwall, the team is in 15th place and only one point ahead of Rooney’s team despite having won two of their last three games, including a 1-0 victory at home over Coventry City after the international break.
It is still all to play for with just 10 Championship games played, but the Home Park supporters will soon start to worry about the possibility of relegation if Argyle cannot bounce back from their devastating loss to the Bluebirds.
