Stoke City linked with League One transfer raid as scouts ‘check out Ukraine targets’

Transfer whispers are starting to build as Stoke City prepare for a chance to tweak the squad in January

Wigan Athletic midfielder Thelo Aasgaard, a Norway youth international who was raised in Liverpool, is being linked to Stoke City.

The 22-year-old Aasgaard has been linked to a £3 million move to the Championship after attracting attention in League One. Blackburn Rovers reportedly failed with a summer transfer attempt.

The attacking midfielder has already contributed four goals this season, and according to the Sun on Sunday, Stoke scouts are monitoring his availability and growth.

“Last week, Norwegian under-21 Aasgaard was watched by Potters spy Jon Walters and his sidekick Lee Darnbrough,” writes Alan Nixon. Stoke is probably going to better its offer and approach the valuation after Blackburn’s summer attempt to get 22-year-old Aasgaard was unsuccessful.

Yesterday, Narcis Pelach defeated Derby County 2-1, starting Andrew Moran, Wouter Burger, and Tatsuki Seko with Jordan Thompson and Sol Sidibe on the bench.

In addition, he has Ben Pearson on the books, however he is sidelined for the long run following hamstring surgery, and summer acquisition Bosun Lawal recuperating from an injury.

Thelo Aasgaard, in action for Wigan Athletic against Blackpool, has been attracting Championship scouts to League One.

With his statement on Friday, “These factors (like a big atmosphere) affect the game as well and it’s something I can tell you that in the future I want to strengthen the team in that respect,” Pelach hinted that he would like to add experience to his squad. Because we are so young, I would like to have one or a few players with that kind of experience in the team.”

Additionally, according to Nixon, Stoke is “planning an offer” to retain Tom Cannon “when his loan is reviewed in January”. Cannon scored his sixth goal of the season to help defeat Derby after signing a season-long contract.

In recent weeks, Stoke scouts have been as far as Ukraine to look for ways to bring in fresh talent, he continued.
