Wayne Rooney on his Plymouth Argyle plan for the international break

Wayne Rooney on his Plymouth Argyle plan for the international break

Argyle will not be in Championship action again until they play Watford at Home Park on Friday, November 22

Before the ‘brutal’ phase of Championship competition, Wayne Rooney thinks it’s critical that his Plymouth Argyle players recuperate.

Now that the season’s third international break has arrived, the majority of Rooney’s team has been granted some time off, even though five of them are overseas serving their nations. That comes before a run of eleven Championship games in forty-four days, which begins on Friday, November 22 at Home Park with the Sky-televised match against Watford.

Argyle, who haven’t won on the road all season, will play away games against Oxford United, Sheffield United, Coventry City, Norwich City, and Bristol City.

Between the conclusion of the second international break of the season and the beginning of the third, the Pilgrims only managed to accumulate five points from six opponents. They lost three of their last four games, including a lopsided 3-0 loss to Leeds United. On Saturday, they defeated Portsmouth 1-0 at home and then drew 1-1 away to Derby County.

Leeds was undoubtedly a tough match for us, but Rooney stated: “Winning against Portsmouth and then away from home against a strong team was crucial for us to start the international break with some momentum.

“I think we were extremely excellent previously, so hopefully we can move over the bad games we had in the past. Therefore, we must attempt to gain some momentum and score additional points.”

The bottom half of the standings is extremely crowded, with Argyle in 18th place in the Championship with only four points separating Swansea City in 11th and Cardiff City in 22nd.

“The league is crazy,” Rooney added. With eight or ten games remaining, this league always seems to come to life in my opinion. When that time arrives, we must make sure we are in a good position to try to go forward instead of looking back.

“This week, the players will take a break. That’s crucial, in my opinion. For every squad, the next three months are, if you will, cruel.

It is crucial that the athletes now spend time with their families and kids. They will also have a job schedule to keep themselves busy, but they will also try to rest and prepare for the upcoming three months.
