League ‘pretty close’ to announcing AFLW 2025 time slot
The AFL has stated that details about the 2025 AFLW schedule would probably be made public in the upcoming weeks.
Josh Bowler, the AFL’s head of fixtures, has stated that a START date for the AFLW match is almost certain.
Bowler stated that details regarding the start date and schedule for the upcoming AFLW season would be made public “in the coming weeks” during a press conference held on Thursday following the announcement of the 2025 Toyota AFL Season schedule.
“AFLW’s definitely front of mind, we’re working through what next season looks like and we’ll have something out in the coming weeks,” Bowler explained.
“We’re currently working through [whether the AFLW season will start mid-AFL season] at the moment and we’re pretty close [to making an announcement].”

In 2025, the AFLW competition will consist of 12 games per team, instead of the 11 games in 10 weeks that were scheduled for this season, according to confirmation from the League.
Since the men’s schedule includes Thursday night games in 23 of the 25 rounds, AFL games will typically take place from Thursday to Sunday instead of only Friday to Sunday. This means that the games will be a little more dispersed, with potential voids that might be filled by AFLW games.
Though the men play on weekends, the League hasn’t yet ruled out scheduling AFLW games throughout the week.
