Plymouth Argyle handed key player boost as Wayne Rooney shares injury update ahead of Watford

Plymouth Argyle handed key player boost as Wayne Rooney shares injury update ahead of Watford tie

Lewis Gibson, a defender for Plymouth Argyle, returned to training this week and should be able to play this Friday night against Watford.

following 15 games, Plymouth Argyle sits in 18th place following an uneven start under Wayne Rooney.

They have, however, been especially successful at home in spite of this start. They will enter the match against Watford hoping to win because 14 of the 16 points they have earned this season have come at Home Park.

The fact that Lewis Gibson should be able to return against the Hornets will boost that confidence. Wayne Rooney, the manager of Plymouth Argyle, verified the news prior to Friday’s match, saying:

He should be available because he has been training for the past few days. It’s another matter entirely whether he starts.

“He needs to return and train effectively. It provides us with an alternative. You have to make judgements, of course, but he’s had an incredible season. I’m glad he’s returned to his fitness level.

Following some excellent play from the centre-back, Gibson sustained an injury that has kept him out of the last four games.

    Light on defensive options

Gibson has returned, but injuries have left Plymouth Argyle weak at the back. Brendan Galloway and Joe Edwards are still out before Watford’s visit.

Rooney claims that Galloway is still “a few weeks out” from making a comeback after missing the last six games. beyond hamstring surgery, Edwards has not yet been given a return date, but it is expected to be beyond the year.

Hazard is on a similar timeline to the previously mentioned Galloway, but the latter is out for the long run along with talisman Ibrahim Cissoko.
What will happen to the Pilgrims next?
This coming week, Plymouth Argyle will play three challenging games. Following their trip to sixth-place Watford, they will go to Bristol City and Norwich City, two teams vying for a spot in the playoffs.
They do play the Canaries at a favourable moment because Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team is struggling right now, having lost three straight games and going winless in six. However, under Liam Manning, Bristol City is playing some excellent football and has won two of their previous three games.
Plymouth’s clash against Watford this Friday feels the more crucial in light of their dismal away record. If they lose to Cleverley’s team, they will have a difficult time trying to salvage anything from the two games that follow.
