Man United favourite sends six-word message after shock Wayne Rooney reunion

Although Wayne Rooney’s difficulties at Plymouth are well known, he might be getting additional support soon.

Wayne Rooney and Mike Phelan will reunite at Plymouth Argyle

Wayne Rooney is getting ready for a well-timed reunion with Manchester United against Plymouth Argyle.

Soon, Rooney, who is still under constant pressure because of his job at Home Park, will be able to enjoy some familiar comforts. That’s because Sir Alex Ferguson’s long-time assistant Mike Phelan is expected to become his second in command, joining United’s all-time top scorer.

Pete Shuttleworth, who left the team by mutual consent, will be replaced by Phelan, who coached at Old Trafford for nine years in two stints. Following the confirmation of the decision on Sunday, Phelan took to social media to share his delight at reuniting with his long-time friend Wayne.

“I’m happy to say that @WayneRooney and I will be #ReUnited at @Argyle. I’m excited for this new challenge,” he wrote earlier today on X.

“Mike is someone I know well, having worked with him when I was a player at Manchester United, and he has vast experience at the highest level of football,” Rooney wrote in a statement posted on Plymouth’s website.

“I am really pleased to bring him to Argyle and look forward to seeing him get to work immediately.”

After giving up ten goals in their last two Championship games, Argyle is currently having a rough run. A 4-0 loss to Bristol City was followed by a 6-1 loss to Norwich City. Rooney’s position is still in doubt, despite reports that he was given a long time to try to improve Plymouth’s performance.

Adding, “I am sad to see Pete leave the club,” Rooney said. Throughout my management career, I have collaborated extensively with him, having first met him at Derby County. He has also been a good friend.

“Pete has some personal matters going on which is where his focus needs to be and we all completely respect that and have mutually decided to part ways.”
