The loan addition of Enzo Le Fee from Roma has already strengthened the Black Cats’ push for promotion. If Sunderland wants to sign Cannon in January, it would cost them £7 million, and Leicester City is open to selling him permanently.

According to the most recent information released by Alan Nixon, Sheffield United may surpass Sunderland in the competition to recruit the 22-year-old, as the Blades are currently willing to offer £7 million. Irishman Cannon has scored nine goals in 22 Championship games for the Potters so far this season.

He even scored during Stoke City’s 2-1 FA Cup victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last time around.

It should come as no surprise that Sunderland has downplayed the likelihood of spending £7 million on Cannon following a deal to sign Le Fee on loan. Transfer analyst Graham Bailey informs us that the rumored £7 million price tag for Cannon is accurate in an interview with Sunderland AFC News.

Bailey claims that Leicester City, who paid £7.5 million for Cannon in the summer of 2023, is looking for him for anything between £6.5 and £7 million. Bailey claims that although Sunderland is looking for a new striker, they just cannot afford to spend that much at this time.

Bailey concludes by saying that Sunderland will probably look to the loan market for a new striker during the remaining January transfer window.

Given that it was announced that Millwall wanted to sign Aaron Connolly and that the process appeared to be very advanced, it is not surprising to learn that the Black Cats are looking for a new striker.

Then, it was disclosed that Trey Ogunsuyi could go on loan before to the due date. Wilson Isidor would be the team’s only available striker if he and Connolly left.

But as of right now, it doesn’t appear that Cannon will be leaving Stoke to move to Sunderland. Sheffield United’s move to Bramall Lane becomes more likely, and if the Blades contribute £7 million, the deal may be completed quickly.
