Although Sheffield United, a Championship competitor, is also interested in Andrew Omobamidele, Leeds seem to be the front-runners for the 22-year-old center-back, and a transfer for him would be feasible after Leeds’ Pascal Struijk injury. Omobamidele needs to play football, according to Nottingham Forest boss Andy Reid. During an interview with Off The Ball, Reid gave Omobamidele high marks and recommended that he start playing for the benefit of his career.
Reid remarked, “He’s had a difficult time; opportunities have been scarce.”
“He should go play football. I’m sure he’ll find a way to get on the field.”
“He’s a great guy, and I think he’ll have a really good career. I worked with him at the Ireland under-18s.”
Reid thought Leeds target Omobamidele was ‘excellent’ in 2021
As Farke’s concerns regarding his players’ fitness continue, Leeds undoubtedly needs a center-back.
Omobamidele has only made one appearance for Forest this season, but Farke is familiar with the young player from their time together at Norwich City.
The coach’s current remarks about the Ireland international are supported by Reid’s 2021 Off The Ball Saturday Football Show interview about Omobamidele’s potential (38:48).
But he’s really stepped up in the last two to two and a half years.
“He has a great, strong mentality and a certain something about him that makes him not afraid to put his foot in and likes to win his tackles and headers.”
He is quite good when he is in possession. A little bit of everything is in him.
The young center-back needs to start playing right now, and with Strouijk out, this could be the ideal opportunity.
Moving to Leeds might be the wisest course of action for everyone involved because Omobamidele has potential.
