‘Not ready to push him’ – Injury update for Brighton loan duo at Ipswich Town and Portsmouth

‘Not ready to push him’ – Injury update for Brighton loan duo at Ipswich Town and Portsmouth

Brighton’s loan failures at Portsmouth and Ipswich have frustrated me.

The injury problems of Brighton’s Mark O’Mahony and Julio Enciso affect their loan teams, Portsmouth and Ipswich Town.

Enciso is expected to miss four weeks of action after suffering a knee injury in the first half of Ipswich’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

“He’s had some scans,” Town manager Kieran McKenna stated about Enciso. “Fortunately, there was no fresh, serious damage.

The majority of it will require time to stabilize. We’re not really sure how long that is. I hope we can get him back as quickly as possible.

Lowly Ipswich, without Enciso, lost to Tottenham 4-1 at home last weekend. They will try to start their fight to stay in the league by defeating Manchester United tonight before playing Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fifth round Sunday.

After going on loan in January, Enciso has already made three Premier League outings for the Tractor Boys.

Meanwhile, O’Mahony recently returned after a lengthy knee issue and scored during Portsmouth’s 2-0 Championship win at Oxford United but then missed last Saturday’s 2-1 home victory against QPR with a fresh groin problem. Pompey’s head coach John Mousinho told our sister title The News: “Mark just felt his groin slightly in training on Friday, I don’t think it’s too bad. “It’s not quite as bad as some of the others on initial assessment. Mark not being included against QPR wasn’t a precaution, because I don’t think he was ready to play. It’s one where we’re just not ready to push him through it.

O’Mahony joined Portsmouth on a season loan last summer, however he was injured and missed 15 Championship games. The 20-year-old has four goals in all competitions in his 11 appearances for Mousinho’s squad.

Portsmouth’s next game is against Luton Town on March 1; they are currently 17th in the standings.
