Harry Wilson defends Leeds United star Ethan Ampadu after Wales loss

Wales put on a strong show against a Belgium team that featured Jeremy Doku, Leandro Trossard, and Kevin De Bruyne on Monday night, but they were left heartbroken.

The Welsh’s opening goal from Joe Rodon provided Craig Bellamy’s team with the ideal foundation for an unexpected victory in Cardiff. But Belgium, who led Wales 2-1 at halftime, swiftly ended any Welsh hopes.

Even though Nathan Broadhead scored a late goal, Belgium ultimately prevailed 4–2. However, a penalty against Ethan Ampadu for a handball that was handled at close range marked a turning point.

A pass was clipped to the back post by Charles De Ketelaere, a name Leeds supporters will recall from the Andrea Radrizzani era, but Ampadu handled it from a yard away without even glancing at it. The VAR verified a penalty.

Harry Wilson thinks penalty against Ethan Ampadu ‘very harsh’

Following Thomas Meunier’s stunning goal, Kevin De Bruyne scored the first of two penalties against Leeds’ number one on Monday night, leaving Karl Darlow powerless. It was 4-2 after Broadhead thanks to Trossard.

However, after such a strong start, Bellamy’s team appeared to be completely exhausted after the penalty against Ampadu. Wilson, who nearly joined Ampadu’s Leeds, supported his Wales teammate in remarks made following the game.

Wilson told BBC Sport, “Ethan was just moving side to side when it struck his hand. I haven’t seen the penalty, but it seemed a little harsh to me.” “That is regrettable, but we need to improve our defense of the second goal.”

What do Wales need to do to secure World Cup qualification?

With two games left, Wales is now in third place in Group J after losing to Belgium. They will likely need six points to finish in second place after playing Liechtenstein and North Macedonia.
