Norwich 6-1 Plymouth: Wayne Rooney Championship reaction

Wayne Rooney felt Plymouth rolled over too easily as the Pilgrims’ travel sickness continued in a 6-1 Championship rout at Norwich City.

Argyle has lost their last nine away league games this season and has already suffered crushing defeats at Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday.

However, the Canaries crushed Rooney’s team on Tuesday, with goals from Shane Duffy, Anis Ben Slimane, and Ante Crnac as well as a hat-trick from Borja Sainz causing their worst loss of the year.

The renowned former Manchester United and England striker claimed, “We were nowhere near good enough.” “We were not aggressive enough, we lost our duels, we made no tackles, and we gave the ball away too easily.” Norwich was able to create opportunities against us far too easily. To be honest, that was a recurring motif in the entire game.

We’re really lucky to enter at 2-1, and you have to hope for a response as the second half begins. I believe we started to falter a little when they scored the third goal. He wouldn’t give up six goals tonight if I put the Under-18 squad out there. I’m really let down.

“The players won’t have a good day or two for the next 24 or 48 hours, and I’m going to be frustrated, but I think we need to really figure out why this is happening.”

“I have absolutely no doubts about the players’ approach. As a player, you must know that you may have difficult periods throughout games and that you must persevere through them. You must speak. You must assist a teammate who is struggling throughout a game. Football is that. As a team, you advance in this way.

“I thought we would never be able to recover when the score was 3-1. It appeared as though the players didn’t think they could return to the game on the pitch.

“I have given players a lot of credit this season because they have put on great performances in the most of my home games, but we must rapidly improve our away performance because it cannot continue in this manner.
