Hearts duo on the move with loan switch until January

League Two Stranraer has signed Heart of Midlothian players Matthew Gillies and Dom Plank through January.

Since last season’s beginning, the two have been a mainstay for the B squad.

More than 70 appearances in the fifth tier between them will help them to gain experience farther up the pyramid with a move to Stranraer.

With the Stair Park team battling near the bottom of League Two, Chris Aitken, the manager of Stranraer, is hoping for a boost in attacking talent.

They are currently only five points clear of Edinburgh City, who were docked 15 points for failing to win a league game.

Only Aberdeen has scored less than Aitken’s team in the four SPFL leagues.

The all-around midfielder Gillies has a deal with Tynecastle Park that runs through 2027. He recently got back from a trip abroad.

He started the Slovenia Nations Cup match against Kazakhstan as a member of Neil MacFarlane’s 22-man Scotland Under-19 team.

After leaving Wolves, Plank relocated to Hearts last summer. The 19-year-old is a deft winger with the potential to be great. In 30 games played in the Lowland League last season, he scored eight goals.

“I’m thrilled for them both. After playing a number of games for the B Team over the past two seasons, it’s the next step for them,” Angus Beith, head coach of the B team, stated on the club’s website.

“Stranraer had a strong interest in both players. The fact that Stranraer approached us and expressly requested Matty and Dom instead of the club attempting to find them a loan indicates that they have seen them, want them, and believe they can help their side.

“Hopefully, our two guys will be able to enter and provide them with a lift. In order to have a positive impact on the team while on loan, you must first gain the trust of the coaches and veteran players. Thus, we’re eager to observe how they function outside of their immediate surroundings.
