Abdul Fatawu sends Crysencio Summerville message ahead of Leeds United play-off final

Abdul Fatawu, a winger for Leicester City, has given a message to Crysencio Summerville as Leeds United gets ready to play Southampton in the playoff final.

Summerville’s goal was the game’s fourth and last as Leeds defeated Norwich City 4-0 at Elland Road to secure their trip to Wembley.

After the triumph, the Whites attacker posted a number of images on social media, the most of them were from the match.

Abdul Fatawu sends Crysencio Summerville message ahead of Leeds United play-off final

Can Crysencio Summerville steer Leeds United to playoff success?

As a raw academy graduate, Summerville has developed into the team’s talisman throughout an incredible season for Leeds, drawing many admiring looks in the process.

With his goal against the Canaries at Elland Road, he now has an amazing 21 goals in 3,817 minutes over 48 games across all competitions this season. This is especially impressive given that he also has 10 assists.

The left winger is constantly creating shooting opportunities for himself or others through a combination of incisive passing, fearless ball-carrying and sharp movement into dangerous positions.

The Saints full-back Kyle Walker-Peters, who often runs forward, will be his opponent at Wembley, and the Dutchman may be able to take advantage of this.

After overcoming stiff competition from several other contenders, Summerville was rightfully voted the Championship’s Player of the Season in April. He will now look to finish a tremendous season by winning the playoffs and getting promoted back to the Premier League.

Robbie Savage shares 'Terrible' Leeds United verdict in play-off final v Southampton

Robbie Savage shares ‘Terrible’ Leeds United verdict in play-off final v Southampton

Robbie Savage asserts that Daniel Farke, the manager of Leeds United, needs to “sweep away” their play-off curse when they play Southampton in the championship game on May 26 at Wembley.

Leeds advanced to the championship game on Thursday, May 16, by crushing Norwich City 4-0 at Elland Road. Despite their five prior tries, Leeds has never been promoted via the play-offs.

Leeds should return to the Premier League, according to Savage, but there is a “big but” when it comes to the Whites’ chances of making the playoffs, as he stated in The Daily Mirror’s print edition on May 17, page 63.

According to Savage, “Leeds have a dreadful record in the play-offs—a 100% record—five failed tries to earn promotion.

“Farke will have 37 years of cruel history to sweep away at Wembley next weekend,” he continued.

What is Leeds United’s play-off record?

Leeds United participated in the inaugural promotion play-off round in 1987 as a member of the former Second Division, however the outcomes of those games have now been detrimental for almost forty years.

It was a two-leg contest at each team’s home field before the final was a single game at Wembley. The Whites lost 2-1 in the replay at St. Andrews in Birmingham after defeating Charlton 1-0 at Selhurst Park and winning 1-0 at Elland Road. The Addicks scored twice in extra time.

The remaining play-off heartbreak for the team has occurred in the years following their initial Premier League demotion in 2004. Leeds’ drop to the third division would bring about two more calamities after Watford’s 3-0 thumping of the Whites in the 2006 title match.

After losing to Millwall and Doncaster in the 2008 and 2009 semi-finals, Leeds was forced to spend a third season in League One. In a thrilling semi-final match, nearly ten years after being promoted back to the second division, Marcelo Bielsa’s 2019 team lost to Derby County.

In conclusion, Leeds’ prospects are not bright heading into the 2024 championship game against Southampton on May 26, but with promotion expectant Farke leading the charge, might this be the year when the
