Hearts skip Lawrence Shankland responds to weight jibes with hilarious quip

Hearts ace Shankland in hilarious quip about weight jibes

In an attempt at self-satire, Lawrence Shankland stated he would take criticism on the chin—or chins, as it were—and that he would not listen to jokes about his weight.

If the captain of Heart of Midlothian had received £100 for each time a rival fan chorused, “You fat,” so and so, he would say he would not need to play football.

During Sunday’s exciting Scottish Premiership match, in which the Jambos lost 3-2 to Aberdeen, he was subjected to even more vicious taunts from the Pittodrie grandstands.

The Dons have won 13 straight games since Jimmy Thelin’s arrival thanks to a late goal from Ante Palaversa.

The home crowd also gives their former player the runaround in the last moments of the game, following Shankland’s jubilant celebration in front of Aberdeen supporters after Blair Spittal’s incredible strike.

Though he’s been accustomed to it throughout his career, the 29-year-old can laugh off taunts from the audience.

“I receive that on a weekly basis,” the Scotland international said to the Edinburgh Evening News.”If there were a hundred pounds for each chorus of “You Fat B*****d,” I wouldn’t be playing football.

Unusual Aberdeen ‘handball’ spotted in Hearts clash as VAR role put under microscope after missed flashpoint

An exciting afternoon at Pittodrie was extended by Hearts’ eight-match losing streak.

Against Hearts, Aberdeen’s incredible perfect start to the Scottish Premiership season was maintained thanks to a dramatic late goal from midfielder Ante Palaversa.

Hearts supporters, however, could have felt that the Croatian ought to have made headlines for entirely other reasons after the referee and VAR overlooked an odd late handball in his own penalty area. After a thrilling match in which Jorge Grant also saw red in the 78th minute, the incident occurred. Dimitar Mitov, the Dons’ custodian, arrived to retrieve a cross while Hearts applied pressure.

As the penalty box cleared, Palaversa was among the first to rush over to applaud his goalie after Mitov’s catch, which was celebrated like a goal with only seconds left in the six extra minutes.

But in the midst of the celebration, fans saw an odd moment where he gestures to pat the custodian on the chest and seems to touch the ball while it’s in the keeper’s hands. Strictly speaking, if his hand had touched the ball, it should have been a penalty. Although Beaton was not likely to witness it in real time, supporters have questioned why VAR did not step in.
