Steven Naismith reveals alternate career he’s been offered after Hearts sacking and says ‘I thought he was joking’

Steven Naismith reveals alternate career he’s been offered after Hearts exit + says ‘I thought he was joking’

Following Hearts’ terrible start to the season, Steven Naismith was fired as manager.

Shortly after being fired from his position at Tynecastle, former Hearts manager Steven Naismith disclosed a surprise employment offer that was made to him.

After the team’s terrible start to the season, the 38-year-old was fired from his position just over a year after being formally appointed head coach of the Jambos in September 2023. Naismith was let go along with his assistants Gordon Forrest and Frankie McAvoy because they were at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership standings with just one point between them.

It’s easy for things to change, especially in football, and it’s obvious that this season isn’t going well. “Unfortunately, there is little evidence of any potential upturn in fortunes,” stated Hearts CEO Andrew McKinlay at the time, “because results and performances have fallen below the standards expected at this football club.”

There are currently no strong ties between Naismith and a new club, and the Hearts position was his first full-time managing position. The former Everton and Jambos player, however, has received a surprising offer in his career since leaving Tynecastle.

“I might as well tell the story about the postman coming a couple of days after I got sacked,” Naismith stated while appearing on BBC Radio Scotland’s Off The Ball show.

“When I answered the door to accept the package after my job loss, my postman said, ‘We are hiring over Christmas, we need drivers.'” He said, “No seriously, just let me know if you want a form,” which made me think he was kidding.

After Naismith was fired on September 22nd, former Blackpool and Queens Park Rangers coach Neil Critchley took over. The 45-year-old led the team to their first and much-needed Scottish Premiership victory of the 2024–2025 season with a resounding 4-0 victory over St Mirren.

Former Blackpool and Queens Park Rangers coach Neil Critchley took Naismith’s position after he was fired on September 22. They secured their first and much-needed Scottish Premiership victory of the 2024–2025 season under the 45-year-old’s leadership, defeating St Mirren 4-0.

In order to get to nine points and stay above the bottom of the table, the Jambos have since defeated St Johnstone 2-1 and drawn 1-1 with Hibs in the Edinburgh Derby.

“I’ve relished the vacation,” Naismith added. “I went on vacation, played padel, and cooked some bread. ‘What am I going to do?’ has been my thought when I haven’t been working.

I went with my girlfriend to a bread-making lesson that was held somewhere along Ayrshire Way.I’ve accomplished a lot of the things I wanted to do.
