Same opponents but different competition after referee named for Argyle trip

Referee Davies to take charge of Watford’s trip to Plymouth

When Watford returns to action on Friday night following the international break, a referee will oversee a match against the same opponents for the second time this season, but in a different tournament.

According to the EFL website, Andy Davies, who oversaw the Hornets’ 2-0 League Cup triumph over Plymouth Argyle in August, has been called upon once more to mediate a match between the two teams, this time in the Championship at Home Park.

Since he oversaw their 2-1 success over Sunderland in September, Tom Cleverley’s team will be looking to make it three wins with the Hampshire official overseeing one of their games this season.

With 11 league and cup games officiated thus far this season, Davies has issued 48 yellow cards but no reds.

With Sam Allison serving as the fourth official, Graham Kane and Nigel Lugg are scheduled to serve as the assistant referees for the 8 p.m. kickoff.
