‘Really Scary’ How Leeds United ‘Humiliated’ Hannover Admits German Daily
In a private match on Wednesday, Leeds United crushed Hannover 96, and a German tabloid has claimed that the Whites’ tactics of “humiliating” the opposition were “really scary.”
Ilia Gruev, Joel Piroe, and a brace from Mateo Joseph helped Daniel Farke’s team defeat Hannover 4-1, capping off their preseason preparations.
Leeds failed to keep a clean sheet in Germany, but the Whites still put on an incredibly strong friendly display.
Hannover is a German second-tier team who competed for promotion last season, finishing sixth.
The manner Leeds handled Hannover, however, startled the German daily Bild, which lamented the 2. Bundesliga team’s humiliation, calling it a frightening spectacle.
Bild wrote: “It was truly terrifying how the English humiliated 96 for a significant portion of the game in the 1:4 loss. Tresoldi (over) took the first of 96 shots on goal after 34 minutes. The score was already 0:2 at that point.
After the game, Hannover coach Stefan Leitl did not hold back when he acknowledged that Leeds were a premier team with up to 15 players on their roster.
He admits that the Whites are just superior.
“They are superior to us, even though we are good.” He declared, “Leeds is a premier team with 12, 13, 14, and 15 exceptional players.”
“We really need to push ourselves to the limit against an opponent like that, and we didn’t have that today.”
In the upcoming days, Leeds will want to make the most out of their preseason tour to Germany.
Before the Championship begins, they have just one friendly left, which is against Valencia on August 3 at Elland Road.
