Newcastle United eyeing Bosman move for Jonathan David
Newcastle United will reportedly compete with Arsenal, Chelsea, and West Ham United for 24-year-old LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Jonathan David is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are among the clubs keen on securing a pre-contract agreement in January. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old LOSC Lille striker is also a target for Arsenal, Chelsea, and West Ham United.
Jonathan David and his journey at LOSC Lille
Since transferring from KAA Gent to LOSC Lille in August 2020, Jonathan David has established himself as one of the top performers in Ligue 1. Over the past four years, he has steadily improved and established himself as a final third staple for both his club and his nation.
The 24-year-old has played for LOSC Lille about 200 times so far, scoring 88 goals and dishing out 20 assists. David’s achievements at the Ligue 1 club, however, have not gone unnoticed, drawing interest from a number of illustrious teams, particularly those in the Premier League. Among his potential suitors are West Ham United, Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Chelsea.
A man in demand
There have been rumours circulating that Arsenal and the Canadian international had discussed a pre-contract deal for Bosman’s transfer during the summer transfer window of 2025. Arsenal could consider David as a target since Gabriel Jesus is finding it difficult to create opportunities in front of goal.
It makes sense that Chelsea is interested in Jonathan David in the interim. Having missed out on signing Victor Osimhen during the summer transfer window, the West London team will try to add a talented striker in the upcoming campaign. With regard to Newcastle United, they have opened
talks with David’s agents about a pre-contractual arrangement that they can sign in January.
David’s interest from Newcastle United is a little surprising given that Alexander Isak is the Tyneside team’s unquestionable first-choice striker. Given that Niclas Fullkrug is getting close to thirty, West Ham United might use a striker like David. Other than Fullrug, the Canadian striker will be an improvement over Michail Antonio and Danny Ings.
The 24-year-old is being linked to a move to Newcastle United, therefore West Ham United, Arsenal, and Chelsea need to move quickly to sign him. Where the LOSC Lille attacker ends up next season will be interesting to see.
