‘Real confidence’ – Burnley ace hailed by Scott Parker after Plymouth Argyle win

‘Real confidence’ – Burnley ace hailed by Scott Parker after Plymouth Argyle win

Burnley boss Scott Parker has said he had ‘real confidence’ in Josh Brownhill to convert his penalty against Plymouth Argyle. Burnley won 1-0 at home to Wayne Rooney’s side to keep their momentum going. They are sat in 2nd place in the Championship table behind Sunderland and have 17 points on the board from their first eight fixtures of this season. The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League earlier this year along with Sheffield United and Luton Town after finishing in the bottom three. They are now eyeing an immediate promotion back from the Football League.

According to a report by the Burnley Express, Parker praised Brownhill following their victory over the Pilgrims, saying, “We were well worthy of at least 1-0 at half-time.” With our counterpositions and the way we were constructed at the time, we deserved to receive the punishment. I’ve seen Browny do that every day in training so I had genuine confidence in him standing up and taking the penalty.”

Brownhill has been a crucial player for Burnley thus far this season, and he has scored four goals in eight league contests.

June 2025 marks the end of his Turf Moor contract, and the following year he is expected to become a free agent. They must make a significant choice that will affect his long-term prospects.

He was acquired by the Lancashire team in 2020, and he has contributed greatly to the team.

With the Clarets, Brownhill has made 176 appearances in all competitions and has 18 goals to his credit.

Before coming to Burnley four years ago, he had played for Manchester United, Preston North End, Barnsley, and Bristol City.

    What now?

Parker’s team defeated Plymouth Argyle, and even when they don’t perform at their best, they appear capable of producing results.

They are proven to be formidable rivals and have only dropped a single game against Sunderland this season.

Before the international break, the Clarets return to action this weekend against Brownhill’s former team, Preston North End.
