Former Premier League star completes move to Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth

Former Premier League star completes free transfer to Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth after disappointing one-year spell at Saudi Arabian side Al-Riyadh

A former Premier League striker has signed a short-term contract to join Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth.

With Rooney taking over as head coach this summer, the Home Park team has had a challenging start to the campaign and is currently just one point above the relegation zone.

On Tuesday, Rooney’s team played well against Burnley, who were vying for promotion, but they were ultimately unable to take use of their opportunities and lost 1-0 at Turf Moor.

As a result, Plymouth now has the second-lowest goal total in the Championship. Rooney moved fast to add offensive reinforcements, as Muhamed Tijani will be sidelined until the new year due to injury.

Former Brentford, Burnley, and Watford attacker Andre Grey has signed a short-term contract with the team that expires in January, the club announced on Friday.

After Grey arrived, Rooney made the following statement: “We moved quickly to bring in a striker to replace Muhamed once we knew the severity of his injury.”

“Andre is a striker with true talent who has excelled at the highest level of play and goal scoring.” As the season gets closer to its peak, he will offer competition in the forward positions, and I’m thrilled to have him here.

Following his initial acknowledgement for his goal-scoring prowess at non-league Luton, Grey went on to score sixteen goals in his debut Championship season upon joining Brentford in 2014.

After a reported £6 million transfer, Grey joined Burnley, where he was awarded Championship top scorer in his first season and helped his team gain promotion to the Premier League.

Following nine Premier League goals for the Clarets, Grey signed a four-year contract with Watford for a club record amount. He played a key role in the team for four seasons before spending a year in Greece with Aris.

Grey played for several seasons for England’s C team before switching allegiances to Jamaica in 2021, where he has 13 caps for the Reggae Boyz. His most recent club was Al-Riyadh of the Saudi Pro League, where he scored seven goals in 27 appearances before being released this summer when his contract expired.
