Kye Rowles lifts lid on Hearts players ‘getting into each other’ as he reveals reason for angry exchanges against Minsk
Yan Dhanda’s game-winning goal at the last second gave the Jambos their first victory, coming back from behind to win 2-1.
In an interview, Kye Rowles discussed the heated exchanges between teammates following the Hearts’ Conference League victory over Dinamo Minsk on their away day.
The Jambos have had an awful season thus far, but they managed to halt their losing streak by winning a decisive three points away from home thanks to a goal from Yan Dhanda just seconds before the game’s four extra minutes expired. After firing Steven Naismith, the capital club is looking for a new manager. Liam Fox is in charge in the interim as club executives look for a replacement.
After a lengthy stretch without a victory, the players in Azerbaijan had a private conversation and were under increasing pressure. That ultimately came to an end when perfect Aberdeen—six for six in the Premiership—was scheduled to play at Pittodrie on Sunday.
The Hearts players were under pressure, as Rowles admitted in an interview with the Edinburgh News, adding, “You’d probably be lying if you said ‘no.'” During every game, you think to yourself, “It has to happen.” That must occur. That’s when you almost start to get too ambitious. When plans don’t work out, you feel angry and let down. The frustration that pervaded Thursday night was probably audible to you. There were a bunch of boys fighting among themselves on the calmer area.
It’s advantageous. We know how good we can be, so we were really enraged with each other out on the pitch. Our goal is to improve and win more games. It would have been rather evident to you. After the game, we are once again best friends after haggling it out inside during halftime. That is the only way it can be. On the pitch, you must be accountable to one another and ensure that you give the team your all.
Rowles is fine with the players looking up to one another in terms of expectations and output. After feeling “relieved” to cross the finish line against Minsk, he is excited to continue and build on his first victory of the season.
He went on, “I believe that if they don’t and they just ignore it, it’s as like they’ve given up on you and don’t care about you. While we’ve done it in every other game, on Thursday when the stadium is empty, you’ll probably be able to hear it better. Each of us must be responsible for the other. Our wishes have not been fulfilled. Gaining the first victory of the season is encouraging.
“It’s not too late to do this. We decided to do it on a nice night. Last Saturday [against Ross County], we played well; we didn’t win, but we didn’t give up and managed to grab that late equaliser. We were in the game to earn a late winner on Thursday. The boys were giddy with excitement. Even though we expected it would take a while to arrive, it is a relief that the monkey is now off our back.
