Leeds captain shares bold theory to explain Illan Meslier’s horrendous error
Illan Meslier, the custodian for Leeds, gave away two points in stoppage time when he made a once-in-a-generation error that let Sunderland tie the score. The Whites captain then provided an explanation.
In light of his gaffe, Leeds captain Pascal Struijk has defended Illan Meslier, claiming there was a “dent” in the Sunderland pitch.
As they made their way to the top of the Championship, the Whites were headed for an enormous three points. The game appeared to be won by Junior Firpo in the second half, as Leeds defended a free-kick six minutes into extra time. Alan Browne appeared to be routinely playing a hopeful ball into the box.
He stated: “He is obviously disappointed; he is aware that these things regrettably occur in sports. We all know how excellent a keeper Illan is, but after looking at the surface there, I think my chances of winning the lottery are higher than that of it going in a hole and then bouncing to his right.
“He will definitely save us; he will make some incredible saves in the first few games. Of course, this is cause for some disappointment right now, but he will make a lot of saves this season.” Prior to their escape clause, Sunderland seemed certain to suffer their first league loss of the year. It maintains Régis, the new manager,’s perfect start.
In an effort to get Leeds back in the Premier League, Daniel Farke is trying to get past the team’s defeat in the play-off final from the previous season. Having never experienced such a mistake, the former Norwich manager was at a loss for words, stating that the goalie was devastated.
“There was no justification,” he declared. “In my thirty years as a professional football player, I have lost a lot of close games, but I have never encountered anything like this. The match was finished. But it’s terrible, painful, and incredibly depressing. It feels like a loss and is difficult to accept. Although it stung, I am pleased with the boys’ performance.
“All we need is an arm to put around Illan’s shoulder.” No one is interested in hearing you speak, so don’t. In the other direction, the ball bounced and leaped. As I haven’t seen the video, I can’t say if that is what happened. He’s practically crying and the saddest player in the dressing room. In a few days, he can discuss it.
