Ross County boss makes an odd Celtic comparison but pinpoints duo who can exploit his side

Ross County boss makes an odd Celtic comparison but pinpoints duo who can exploit his side

Prior to their Scottish Premiership match on Sunday, Ross County manager Don Cowie has drawn comparisons between Celtic, the top team in the league, and Hearts, the worst team.

The Bhoys travel far to the Highlands in the hopes of vanquishing the ghosts of their Champions League performance on Tuesday night and winning ways.

It is anticipated that Brendan Rodgers would take a challenging Celtic week as inspiration in Dingwall. To keep the current standings above Rangers and Aberdeen in the league table, three more points are required.

Cowie is aware that his team is facing the most difficult test possible in Scotland. Nevertheless, he believes his team is ready, partly due to their recent trip to Tynecastle.

They earned a 1-1 draw against Hearts, and the Ross County boss reckons he’ll face a similar tactical set-up at home on Sunday.

Don Cowie delivers verdict on Celtic ahead of Ross County clash

Cowie stated [Ross-shire Journal]: “We discussed it as a group coming into these two games — the opposition plays a lot as Hearts and Celtic does. At times, we’ll need to focus, play deep defence, and defend well.

“The calibre of the players on their two teams clearly varies slightly, but their frameworks are extremely comparable.

“I thought we did incredibly well to defend our goal and be really brave to get first contacts for 95 minutes, so it was a good test for us on Saturday,” the player said.

Given how much more agile and proficient in attack Celtic is than Hearts, this is a daring judgement. The champions’ inventiveness has been unmatched in domestic football this season, so County might pull off a similar last-minute move.

The home team won’t have encountered anything like it this season.

Celtic full-backs highlighted as key threats in Dingwall

The Staggies manager does think that the way Celtic deploy their full-backs is an added threat on Sunday.

Fresh Boy In Greg Taylor’s place, Alex Valle is anticipated to start, with Alistair Johnston, ideally, on the other flank.

Cowie went on, “You go into it thinking about them as an opposition and the abundance of quality they have, so it’s a real challenge.”

“Normally, you would think of wide players as being really good at handling two players, but in Celtic’s style of play, their full backs are free to participate in attacks, so there are a lot of factors to consider.”

“We need to execute it during the game on Sunday, and it will require a true team effort, first on the training pitch.”

Today, Celtic must overcome a team that is adamantly committed to defence. There will be a crowded penalty box and a low queue. The Bhoys’ talent can be seen, but Rodgers’ team will be forced to
