Steven Gerrard comments on Neil Critchley from 2022 as Hearts credentials considered

Neil Critchley will soon take over as Hearts’ manager.

After firing Steven Naismith last month, Jambos executives have focused their search on a single candidate, and the former manager of QPR and Blackpool has emerged victorious in the competition to take over. After being fired by the team two games into the season, the 45-year-old has not had a job.

As previously reported, last week, Cliffley was the front-runner, followed by Per-Mathias Hogmo, the boss of Norway, who withdrew from the race following discussions with Tynecastle management.

Other managers under consideration included former Wales manager Robert Page, Swedish coach Kalle Karlsson of Vasteras, and former manager of Birmingham and Millwall, Gary Rowett.Liam Fox, a gaffer with the B squad, has taken interim command.

    But the man is Critchley.

Having worked with Gerrard at the Premier League’s biggest teams, the former Liverpool youth coach is well-versed on the player. The former Rangers manager relied on him while he was employed by Aston Villa. Michael Beale needs to be replaced when he left to take a job at QPR.

After leading Blackpool to promotion from League One and maintaining their place in the Championship, Critchley resigned as manager to take on the role.

Gerrard touted his qualifications and clarified how he differed from Beale at the time.

“I have good relationships in football and I always prepared myself for that moment (that Beale left),” remarked Gerrard in reference to selecting his assistants for Villa.

It was crucial for us to move as a team and act swiftly, and I’m happy that we were able to secure Neil Critchley’s support.

“You’re talking about two really good coaches, so I don’t think in terms of coaching quality (they’re similar). They are really dissimilar. It matters that they offer exactly what I want and how I want it to look. The transition will happen quite smoothly.

    Critchley Hearts timeline

A new manager for Hearts would most likely be named this week, as the team returns to action on Saturday against St. Mirren, following their international break. It was previously believed that the Englishman might be named the new Jambos manager as early as today. An announcement has not been made yet, but it would be expected to happen this week.
