Due to his inability to forgive himself if a Birmingham City team that isn’t playing at their best lost, Chris Davies will keep delaying games during international windows.

Due to the international call-ups of five of the team’s players, the Blues’ match against Stevenage this weekend has been cancelled. Although League One clubs do not always have international breaks like those in the Premier League and Championship, they are permitted to postpone a match if they receive three call-ups.

Davies has cancelled the Blues’ games against Exeter City, Cambridge United, and Stevenage. Instead, they will now take place on Tuesday, November 26. The Blues will continue to lag behind their League One rivals, who are quickly catching up to them.

The possibility of a longer Bristol Street Motors Trophy run will further increase the Blues’ schedule, and some have questioned why Davies doesn’t use his talented team and continue. In the most recent international break, the Blues trounced Shrewsbury Town 4-0 despite missing a significant portion of their starting lineup because of injuries and internationals.

However, with the stakes so high for the Blues this season, Davies is unwilling to take a chance in a League One match.

He stated: “You would be asking yourself, ‘Why on earth did we do that?’ if we were to play a game and lose, or draw, because we lost four or five guys and it didn’t go our way.

We take every precaution to prevent injuries and other problems. And it just doesn’t make sense to me to enter a game weak, given how crucial each game is.

One of our goalkeepers, for instance, is called up for international duty. Yes, we also have Brad Mayo, but we’re referring to two seasoned goalkeepers there.

Simply said, I fail to see the benefit. Yes, it means we fall behind by a few games, but being fresh when we return has a significant psychological boost. I think these are wonderful chances for us to recharge since there won’t be another one until March, so you’re talking about four or five months of winter weather and lots of games.

We usually appear more rested after returning from them. I would stick to that [position], and based on what I’ve heard, the Premier League and the Championship are interested in them. I also know that other League One managers will take use of them to the fullest extent possible.
