Wow: Plymouth finalise scout report on European midfielder for Rooney; they’re considering move

Plymouth now considering move to sign European midfielder for Rooney

Plymouth Argyle, who are currently only one point above the bottom three in the Championship, have apparently focused on adding a midfield player, which might help Wayne Rooney’s team survive.

    Plymouth transfer news

Even though Rooney is only one point above the relegation zone, many people didn’t think he would make it this far because Plymouth started the season without winning any of their first four league games.

Since then, though, Rooney has been turning a round to open the door for possible survival. The Pilgrims, who went into the international break fresh off victories over Portsmouth and Derby County, are gradually coming to trust him.

In what would be a huge boost for Rooney and his team, the international break appears to have given those at Home Park the chance to turn their attention to possible additions in 2025.

Although the Pilgrims aren’t anticipated to make a significant expenditure, new rumours indicate that they have at least one target in mind for the January transfer window. Sport Witness reports that the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet has completed their scout report on Fredrik Hammar and is now contemplating a bid to recruit the Hammarby midfielder.

Despite only being 23 years old, Hammar has made 30 appearances across all competitions and started 15 of 29 league games for the Hammarby team this season. When he returns to Leeds United at the end of the season, Hammar, who can play both central midfield and defensive midfield, may immediately fit into Rooney’s lineup in place of Jordan Houghton or possibly Darko Gyabi.

Hammar would help protect a defence that has given up 26 goals in just 15 Championship games this season by offering a defensive base in the middle of the park.

    Hammar could earn Championship redemption

Interestingly, if Hammar does end up moving to Plymouth in 2025, it won’t be his first attempt to make an impact in English football. The midfield player returned to Sweden and then Akropolis IF two years after joining Brentford in 2019, having to make do with a spot in the B squad.

However, since that setback, the midfield player has settled into his native nation at Hammarby and may now be given the chance to make amends in the Championship.

It’s unclear how much the Swedish team will demand for the 23-year-old, but Plymouth will undoubtedly be ready to move if the price is right after completing their scout report.

This season, everyone will be focused on surviving in the Championship, and if Hammar completes a move at the start of next year, he might more than help achieve that goal.
