As Nuno Espirito Santo’s team looks to capitalise on their strong start to the season, Nottingham Forest’s crucial January transfer window draws near.

The Reds’ outstanding summer business has paid off, and they have already made remarkable strides this season. The team shouldn’t have too much work to do when the window reopens because of their prior success.

However, as they seek to build upon the strong foundations already established, they will understand how crucial it is to make all decisions correctly.And that is true for both possible incomings and outgoings.

Nuno, the head coach, has stated on multiple occasions that he is happy with the team he has at his disposal and that significant effort was done in the summer to reduce the number of players. Still, a few adjustments might be made in January. We examine a few players below whose fates Forest may make important decisions about at the start of the year.

Emmanuel Dennis

 

It appears doubtful that the forward will find a way back into the Reds’ lineup after being left off of their 25-man Premier League squad list for the first half of the season. Although a relocation wasn’t planned for the summer, Forest will undoubtedly make an effort to make one happen in January.

Dennis played on loan at Watford and Istanbul Basaksehir during the previous season. Since coming off the bench against Crystal Palace on the last day of the 2022–2023 season, he has not played for the Reds. If a deal can be done when the window reopens, it would favour all parties.

 

Lewis O’Brien

The midfielder’s loan at LAFC expires on December 31, thus a decision regarding his future is imminent. There has been discussion about a £7 million transfer being finalised, and the MLS team has the option to make his move permanent.

However, it appears O’Brien would have no shortage of possible admirers if he decides not to come to the United States.Last month, the 26-year-old was connected to Southampton, Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United, Stoke City, and Hull City.

In any case, it would be unexpected if he returned to Forest. Nuno has plenty of choices in midfield, particularly since Ibrahim Sangare and Danilo are recovering from injuries.

Harry Toffolo

Prior to the international break, the left-back was not included in the squad for the match against Newcastle United.His single appearance this season came against Bournemouth in August, demonstrating how difficult it has been to get game time.

Alex Moreno, who is on loan from Aston Villa, is unlikely to be removed from the starting lineup, and Neco Williams and Ola Aina can both fill in on that wing. And with Toffolo’s contract scheduled to expire in the summer, Forest must decide whether to try to cash in, allow him to leave for free at the conclusion of the year or offer fresh terms.

Willy Boly

The defender’s current contract is only a few months old, just like Toffolo’s.The club will soon need to consider their options since they have the option to extend his tenure by a further 12 months.

Still a valued member of the dressing room, the 33-year-old’s experience is very helpful. Currently, however, he is down the centre defensive pecking order.

The forest will not want to be without shelter in a critical area. But whether Boly is eager for more consistent playing time could influence what happens in the future.
