The Plymouth Argyle players likely to leave in two months time

The Plymouth Argyle players likely to leave in two months time

As the January transfer window draws nearer, Plymouth Argyle will already be deciding who will join and leave in the first month of 2025.

Wayne Rooney’s Pilgrims are still fighting near the bottom of the Championship, and the former Birmingham City manager will probably want to bolster some important areas of his team in the second half of the season.

Because of this, the Devon team will probably have to let go of some players to make place for new players, which means that during the coming weeks, some important choices about the playing staff will need to be made.

As Argyle looks to shuffle the pack in order to obtain the results they need to maintain their position in the second division, we look at who might be leaving in the new year.

    Andre Gray

As the striker just signed a short-term contract with Plymouth Argyle in October, Andre Grey will not be a member of the team in January 2025 unless anything changes in the coming weeks.

The former Watford striker only joined the English team after returning from Saudi Arabia, as forward Muhamed Tijani was sidelined until the following season due to a hamstring injury.

Grey, who has mostly been used off the bench since arriving, scored his first goal for the team in a comeback 3-3 draw with Preston North End at Home Park. His skill was on full display in the closing third.

    Mustapha Bundu June 2025

Whether the Greens decide to extend his deal to the end of the season remains to be seen, but as it stands he will be packing his bags before too long.

    Nathanael Ogbeta

Despite only joining the team in the summer, Nathanael Ogbeta’s lack of playing time this season makes it clear that Rooney doesn’t think highly of him.

The former Bolton Wanderers player has battled for playing time since starting the 4-0 thumping to Sheffield Wednesday on the first weekend, and he is currently only available as a substitute despite the backline’s injury problems.

With League One beckoning for the defender, who is just unreliable in the second division, a transfer away, whether on loan or permanently, appears to be the best course of action for all parties involved at this time.

    Jordan Houghton

Jordan Houghton has recently fallen in the hierarchy at Home Park, where Darko Gyabi and Adam Randell are chosen as a midfield duo and the former Chelsea player is mostly used as a substitute this season.

Adam Forshaw leads the competition for playing time in the middle of the park as well, and the 29-year-old may be leaving the team in January as his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
