Wayne Rooney backed for shock managerial move to Scotland as pressure mounts on Man Utd legend at Plymouth

    Rooney, W.Plymouth Championship

Despite Wayne Rooney’s difficulties with Plymouth, Neil Lennon has not ruled out the possibility of the former striker managing in Scotland.

Rooney is having trouble managing Plymouth.
demands that the Championship team fire him, but Lennon would not rule out him relocating to Scotland.

    WHAT HAPPENED?

Since the Manchester United and England icon took over as manager in the summer, Plymouth has only won five of their last 20 games. There have been calls for Rooney to be fired just a few months into his three-year deal since the Championship team has only managed two points from their last four games while giving up 13 goals.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rooney will not be fired anytime soon, according to Plymouth’s owner, and Lennon is supporting him in remaining in his current position. However, the former Celtic manager thinks that taking a job up north, like his former England teammate Steven Gerrard, might be an option in the future.

    WHAT LENNON SAID

“Managing in Scotland, Wayne Rooney? Do not say never. They have been having trouble because of their current inconsistency in performing both at home and away, but he seems committed to being a successful manager and is making a strong effort at Plymouth,” he told Boyle Sports. “He has plenty to concentrate down there before thinking about his next job, but who knows what will happen in the future.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR ROONEY?

When his club plays Oxford in the Championship on Saturday, the 39-year-old is desperate for a victory. Plymouth is one point worse off than their opponents from the weekend and two points above the relegation zone.
