    WHAT HAPPENED?

    On New Year’s Eve, the Manchester United great was fired by Plymouth Argyle after a catastrophic six-month tenure as manager, leaving him without a job. The Sun claims that Rooney would soon be employed as a commentator on Match of the Day, the BBC’s top football highlights program, where he might earn up to £200,000 per year.

    WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

    “Punditry is one of Wayne’s many future options,” a source told The Sun. He performed with Gary and company at the Euros last summer, and the crowd really enjoyed him. In addition to his love of the game and proficiency in forensics, he is also very likeable.

    “A few other broadcasters, including Match of the Day, are interested in featuring him on their shows. Wayne is taking some time to determine exactly what he wants to do next, but the conversations between him and the BBC are still in their early stages and appear promising.

    The individual continued: “This is going to be a massively exciting year for Coleen and Wayne — they have so many options ahead of them.”

    Due to Three Lions icon Gary Lineker’s impending departure as host, BBC’s MOTD will see a significant transformation starting with the 2025–2026 Premier League season.Kelly Cates, Mark Chapman, and Gabby Logan will be the three hosts that will take Lineker’s position. Rooney hopes to become one of the three guest pundits on a rotational basis.

    WHAT NEXT FOR WAYNE ROONEY?

    The 39-year-old has already been offered a position as an ambassador for Football Escapes, a vacation firm that offers first-rate football coaching experiences in Dubai during the school breaks. An “Train with Wayne” workshop in the Middle East will be his first task.
