    I’ll be honest’ – Michael Rose reveals thoughts when his old boss took Stoke City job

    Michael Rose worked with Mark Robins at Coventry City and has faith that his new, old manager can get the better of another challenge at Stoke City 

    Before leaving for Stoke 18 months ago, Rose helped Coventry get promoted to the Championship and establish themselves as the team’s backup in this league after Robins bought him. Rose has been given another opportunity at center-back since they were reunited at Clayton Wood this year, and he has helped the team get four points in the last two games.

    “He’s simply very experienced,” Rose remarked. He has a thorough understanding of this level. He accomplished amazing things at Coventry, where I was also there and we, I believe, had a good time. He’s a great fit for the club, in my opinion, both where it is and where it aspires to be.

    If given the chance, he is the ideal candidate to advance it because he has experience with challenging circumstances. “We had that at Coventry, which was a difficult club at the time, but he moved it in the right direction. It’s a good fit and hopefully he can do the same thing here,” the statement reads.

    Mark Robins was appointed Stoke City manager on New Year's Day.

    During four seasons, including the abbreviated truncated 2019–20 season when they won the League One title, Rose played 116 games for Coventry.

    Even although he departed Robins in 2023, he still holds the boss in high regard. He acknowledges that it wasn’t all sunshine and roses, but he has positive memories of that period, which included playing the finest football of his career.

    “I get along well with him,” he remarked. “I think my time at Coventry was successful when I look back on it. He brought me down to England.” He probably helped me play my greatest football.

    To be honest, we didn’t really agree on the back end, which is probably why I moved on. However, it wasn’t a personal issue; it was simply a football one. Although we have since discussed it, the respect has remained constant, and it was pleasant to see him again.

    “Since he came in, we’ve done okay,” he continued. I believe that since we have only lost one game, we are attempting to win a few more, which boosts morale within the team. The best outcome for everyone, not just the athletes, is a victory. The best approach to bring everyone together is this way.

    Robins managed Rose over his entire tenure at Coventry, much like Ian McCall had managed Rose during his first three years of consistent action at Ayr United.

    However, he has previously worked for four different employers at Stoke, which may be difficult to understand.

    He stated: “I think I learned a lot and had a really tough season last season.” I think it was simply moving to Stoke in the first place, but there was a shift, and I’ve always played for a team with the same manager for the entire time. Everything from the previous season to my arrival here has been unfamiliar to me, so it’s adjusting to that sort of situation.

    I’ve matured a lot as a result. I’m definitely a little older now as well. It’s about handling the challenging situations better.

    Please understand that it has been challenging ever since I arrived, but I have strangely found it to be rather enjoyable because I have gained a lot of knowledge. In a few months, the manager will likely be in a better position to respond to questions regarding my changes, but I’d like to think that I’ve gained some insight into how things operate outside of the field.
