Memorial planned for Stoke City great as another old boy succumbs to dementia

The service will be held at Stoke Minster on Thursday, February 20 at 12.30 p.m. and is organized and coordinated by the Stoke City Old Boys’ Association.
Eastham became a legend in Stoke City after scoring the game-winning goal against Chelsea in the 1972 League Cup final at Wembley. He passed away in South Africa shortly before Christmas at the age of 88. It continues to be the club’s lone significant trophy win.
Eastham was a midfielder with Stoke for eight seasons, featuring in two FA Cup semi-finals and 194 league games. He was a member of England’s 1966 World Cup winning team.
The announcement of the service coincided with the announcement of another Stoke City old boy’s passing. One of Tony Waddington’s last additions, John Tudor, joined the team in 1976 from Newcastle United. He passed away at the age of 78 from dementia in an American assisted living facility where he had resided since retiring from competition.
