John Robertson sets a Hearts task for Neil Critchley as he names ‘sticky’ situation Jambos find themselves in

John Robertson sets a Hearts task for Neil Critchley as he names ‘sticky’ situation Jambos find themselves in

A message has been sent to the new Jambos head coach by the Hearts great.

Hearts head coach Neil Critchley has been given a duty by John Robertson as the focus shifts to the Conference League midweek.

After losing 4-1 to Celtic at Tynecastle on Saturday, the Jambos are still in 11th place in the Premiership. After Critchley’s team had held the champs in check, Kyogo finally took advantage of a defensive blunder to end the opposition in the second half. Hearts was eliminated by Adam Idah’s double after Nicolas Kuhn burst in a second.

Musa Drammeh scored a consolation goal, but there isn’t much time to pout because this Thursday comes the journey to Belgium. With six points already earned in the league phase and nine likely sufficient to guarantee a play-off round knockout berth at the very least, a victory overseas would virtually guarantee a spot in the competition’s next round.

Club legend Robertson, who is on Sky Sports duty for the match against Celtic, says Critchley needs to decide on his best starting lineup at home to prevent the gap between them and others in safer positions from growing. “Hearts are in a bit of a sticky position where he’s saying that it’s not an eleven man game now, it’s a squad game,” the former striker stated.

“I get that, but Hearts need to know their best lineup and formation right now, especially in the league, because they’re having problems and need to get out of them. They’re in a great position right now for Europe, where I believe they can and will make it to the knockout stages.

However, he must now determine and play in his best XI for the league games. He cannot let the gap between Dundee and St Johnstone, who now have six points, widen since they also have games left. I would stick with whatever his [Critchley’s] best lineup is for the match against Aberdeen.

“Because right now, league position is more important.” They have three more games left to play.
