The Nottingham Forest players on notice as key transfer decisions on the cards

Latest Nottingham Forest verdict as Reds face making some big decisions on players during January transfer window

Nottingham Forest are expected to have a relatively quiet January transfer window but a few ins and outs could still be possible at the City Ground.

As they aim to capitalise on their incredible first half of the season, the Reds understand how important it is to make any moves this month. Furthermore, that holds true for both prospective incomings and outgoings.

A lot of effort was done in the summer to reduce the team’s size, and head coach Nuno Espirito Santo already has a good group. But some adjustments might still be made in January. The players whose futures Forest may make important decisions about are examined below.

    Emmanuel Dennis

Left off the Reds’ 25-man Premier League squad list for the first half of the campaign, it seems unlikely there will be a route back into the fold for the forward. A move was not forthcoming in the summer, but Forest will surely try to facilitate one before the winter window closes at 11pm on February 3 Dennis spent last season on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir and then Watford. He has not featured for the Reds since coming off the bench against Crystal Palace on the final day of the 2022/23 season. If a deal can be done this month, it would suit all partiesLewis O’Brien

A decision about the midfielder’s future is imminent, as his loan period at LAFC officially concluded on December 31. The MLS team had the option to make his transfer permanent, and a £7 million transfer was rumoured to be finalised, but nothing has materialised as of yet.

However, it is unlikely that O’Brien will run out of possible suitors. The January window opened with links to Southampton, Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United, Stoke City, and Hull City.

It would not be shocking if his Forest spell ended, no matter what. Given that Ibrahim Sangare and Danilo are recovering from injuries, Nuno has plenty of options in the midfield.

    Harry Toffolo

This season, the left-back has struggled to get game time. He has only made three appearances thus far, and it is unclear if he will start against Luton Town in Saturday’s FA Cup match (3pm kickoff).

Forest must choose whether to try to cash in on Tofolo’s contract, let him leave for free at the end of the campaign, or offer new terms as it is set to expire in the summer. The latter appears improbable, but the club will carefully consider all options when deciding whether to let him depart this month. After all, Toffolo is an important team member who has contributed to the development of a strong sense of camaraderie within the

Similar to Toffolo, the defender’s current contract is only a few months old. The team will soon need to decide what to do because they have the option to extend his contract by an additional 12 months.

In the dressing room, the 33-year-old is still regarded as a valuable member, and his experience is very helpful. But at the moment, he is down the centre defensive pecking order.

A crucial department is one where Forest will not want to be without cover. The future, however, may depend on whether Boly is eager for more consistent playing time. There have also been rumours that he would move to Saudi Arabia.
