Rangers legend Ally McCoist reacts after receivi award from Prince William

After obtaining his OBE from Prince William, Ally McCoist became the most recent Rangers icon to be acknowledged for his accomplishments.

On Wednesday afternoon [2 October], the Ibrox hero shared the news on X after receiving his accolade at Windsor Castle.

In recognition of his contributions to broadcasting and football, McCoist, 62, was granted an OBE as part of King Charles’ birthday honours list.

In addition, he made hints that, before to Aston Villa’s historic Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich, he discussed the team with Prince William.

McCoist said, “I am humbled to be receiving my OBE from Prince William at Windsor Castle today. It is such a proud moment for myself and my family.” It means so lot that you have sent me so many notes of support. Have we discussed [Aston Villa]? Between the Prince and myself, that is.

Rangers legend Ally McCoist receives OBE

McCoist is a football player who has been adored by fans for many years, therefore the news of his recognition has gone viral.

Whether the assertions are well-founded or too ambitious, his opinions are generally well-trusted, especially by the Ibrox faithful. He is now a regular voice and face on national TV and radio.

Others find it considerably less unexpected, but the man’s humility exposes his genuine surprise at obtaining the prize.

Laura Woods, the host of TNT Sports’ Champions League broadcast, questioned McCoist about it on Tuesday night. McCoist had even travelled to the studio the day after visiting Windsor Castle with the Royal Family.

He informed Woods, as reported in The Herald on October 2, “I’ve been awarded for whatever reasons to whoever, an OBE.”

Many will be hoping that the Scotsman’s obvious enthusiasm for the game and the ensuing delivery of his opinions on it—including happenings at his beloved Rangers—will continue for many more years.
