Loan Watch: Phillips nets for St Mirren & Whitworth keeps fourth clean sheet
This weekend, Palace’s loanees performed admirably once more, producing returns at both ends of the pitch.
Killian Phillips launched his St. Mirren career by scoring the team’s first goal against Motherwell over the border in Scotland.
Building on his assist from the previous week, the midfielder gave the Buddies the lead with a fizzed pass from Elvis Bwomono on the outskirts of the box. He took a touch, turned and hammered it in with his right foot.
But in the end, Motherwell rallied behind Fir Park’s support and won 2-1, making it all over for Phillips and his St Mirren team.
In other news, Joe Whitworth had yet another fantastic week for Exeter City, keeping a clean sheet away at Wigan Athletic to record his fourth of the season.
The 20-year-old goalie made six stops to deny the Latics, one of which was a spectacular diving stop that preserved a draw for Exeter in the last seconds of the match.
Regarding his performance, Whitworth remarked, “Wigan is a good team, and they’re a tough place to come.” Overall, it’s a respectable point away from home; we can still improve in certain areas and our performance was strong in others.
“I’m just doing my job, but I earned the clean sheet and made a few saves! I’m supposed to make saves, and today I was supposed to be here for the team when they needed me.
For Bromley and Wealdstone, respectively, Danny Imray and Jack Wells-Morrison relished the entire ninety minutes.
Imray assisted Bromley in tying the score against MK Dons by providing the pass that started the breakaway that resulted in Michael Cheek’s goal early in the first half.
Wells-Morrison earned his first Wealdstone assist, laying the groundwork for Micah Obeiro’s goal, which gave the Stones the lead over FC Halifax Town, at the hour-mark.
In his fourth consecutive start for the Blades against Portsmouth, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi demonstrated his continued adjustment to life at Sheffield United. In a scoreless tie at Fratton Park, he played 67 minutes.
This week, for Leicester City, Hartlepool United, SK Beveren, and HJK Helsinki, respectively, Odsonne Edouard, Roshaun Mathurin, Ademola Ola-Adebomi, and Luke Plange were only allowed to play off the bench.
