Sunday saw a mix of league and cup action, with significant outcomes having far-reaching effects across the Welsh pyramid.

The postponed games from last week’s Bute Energy Welsh Cup were played in addition to the Adran Premier.

Perhaps a cagey battle was to be expected, and both teams ended up drawing 1-1.

Wrexham got off to a strong start as anticipated, and they were rewarded halfway through the half when Abbie Iddenden finished calmly past Charlotte Smith. Smith made saves to keep out Iddenden, Lili Jones, and Amber Lightfoot despite witnessing one strike the back of the net.

Ten minutes into the second half, Wrexham finally found the second goal, but it was more one-way traffic. Rosie Hughes was the one who finessed Iddenden’s through ball home. Deep into the half, Olivia Fuller hammered home the third goal for the goal-hungry Red Dragons to end the day.

Bute Energy Welsh Cup

There were to be no major surprises in the rescheduled Welsh Cup first-round matches.

After defeating Talycopa 11-0, Swansea City guaranteed a spot in the second round. Three Swans players—Emily Richards, Aimee Deacon, and Taite Trivett—were able to record hat-tricks. Sammy Wynne also recorded a hat-trick of assists. The Adran Premier team’s next game is a trip to Carmarthen Town.

With a 5-0 victory over Taffs Well on the road, Brighton Ferry, the other Adran Premier team playing, also advanced to the next round. Megan Kearle and Alison Witts both had braces, and Aimee Heath had a single strike. Ferry will now turn away from Penydarren.

Cascade defeated Cwmbran Celtic 4-1 in the battle of the Adran South sides, securing the victory. Olivia Townsend, Ellis Lunn, Phoebe Ware, and Annaliese Lewis all scored as they secured a trip away to Cardiff City, the league leaders.

Finally, a 12-1 victory over Cardiff Wanderers on the road guaranteed Caldicot Town a spot in the second round. Annabel Carr scored four goals, and Rianne Jones scored an incredible five. Next up is Caldicot, who will be hosting Barry Town.
