Daniel Farke says what he’s trying to do with Max Wober in Leeds United training after playing him at left-back
Junior Firpo’s hamstring injury forced the Austrian international to leave the game after just 20 minutes on Saturday. Wearing a Leeds shirt, he made his first significant appearance of the Championship season.
Of course, Wober scored his first goal for Leeds in addition to playing 70 minutes. Wober was in the area as Brenden Aaronson’s deflected cross was met by a striker’s close-range finish.
Given that Jayden Bogle is doubtful and Firpo is out for Christmas, Wober is anticipated to start on the left side of defence on Tuesday night, with Sam Byram probably filling in on the right after he recovers.
Daniel Farke shares how he is trying to improve Max Wober
Wober was, of course, purchased from Salzburg in January 2023 for £10 million. The left-footed star was originally envisioned as a centre-back, which is still his natural position, but he is now expected to play full-back.
Although Wober’s strengths are more defensive than Firpo’s, who attacks whenever he can, he has done this previously.According to Farke, he has been working to help Wober get better in training moving forward.
We were aware that he could fill this role. He has represented his nation and other clubs there, although he is usually a good defender who closes the wings. But with him, we have put a lot of effort into improving our offensive strategy.
“He may not be a natural moving forward, but he always puts in a shift and has a fantastic mindset. You can affect the offence if you do this and he crosses the ball with good skill. Excellent performance.
Daniel Farke on whether Junior Firpo blow changes January plans
Farke has expressed his expectation of a quiet January. However, the Leeds boss was questioned if he may try to acquire a new left-back during the January transfer window, since Firpo is now out until the middle of January.
Sincerely, it only has an impact on us in December. Farke stated, “If the rehabilitation goes well, he should return sometime in January, and then we don’t have to think about another option in this position.”
