Josh Mulligan blanks Dundee contract talk as star vows to put right ‘unacceptable’ Hearts defeat

Josh Mulligan blanks Dundee contract talk as star vows to put right ‘unacceptable’ Hearts defeat

Josh Mulligan acknowledges that watching the video of Dundee’s 6-0 thumping at the hands of Hearts was depressing.

The brutal Jam Tarts easily defeated the Dark Blues, who had been playing well before Saturday’s Premiership match at Dens.

On Sunday, manager Tony Docherty gathered his team and made them watch the game’s film to discover exactly where they had gone wrong.

Despite acknowledging that it was difficult to watch, Mulligan is now even more motivated to provide a strong performance at Celtic Park tonight.

According to the 22-year-old, “it was helpful to go through it straight away when we were in on Sunday.”

“We analyze every game, but after one like that, we had to get it done quickly.”

Even though it wasn’t a really enjoyable watch, you must do it.

Only the goals and certain moments the manager wanted to discuss with us were shown to us; the entire game was not replayed. We are aware that the objectives were intolerable.

“You have to face these things, but it was constructive.”

We wanted to see what wasn’t good enough so we could deal with it, Mulligan continued. “Some people might want to sweep it under the carpet, but that’s not us.”

We didn’t do well enough, our targets were so low, and we didn’t do what we had been doing for the past few weeks, so it was necessary.

“We need to return to what we were good at after straying from it.

We were prepared for the game and failed to show up, so there were no justifications.

“We have another chance to make things right, which is a good thing right now.”

Mulligan maintains that the Dark Blues can draw with the champions 3-3 at Dens last month, which gives them confidence. Dundee last won at Celtic Park away in 2001.

We played well and earned a terrific result the previous time we played Celtic,” he continued.

“That evening, we shown a high level of focus and concentration; we must repeat that performance at Celtic Park.

Our performance on the ball was lacking against Hearts, but that wasn’t the case against Celtic last month.

“We must therefore return to the standards we had established for ourselves.”

This summer, Mulligan’s contract with Dens expires, and the team has extended its offer to him.

He maintains, nevertheless, that he is entirely mindful of what is taking place on the field and not off.

“I have left my agent to handle it; I haven’t really talked to him about it,” he continued.

“My only thought is about my football; I am only focused on the next game.”

Billy Koumetio and Scott Fraser are both injured and will not play for Dundee.
