With Tottenham arriving at Anfield with a 1-0 lead, Liverpool will be put to the test this week in the League Cup semi-final.With Tottenham traveling to Merseyside this Thursday with an injury crisis and the knowledge that their season could end if they lose to Liverpool, the 14th-place Premier League surprisingly defeated the Reds in the first leg of the semi-final series last month.Troy Deeney gave Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah high marks after the player’s match-winning effort against AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League over the weekend, and Salah is one player who is anticipated to start for the Reds.Indeed, Salah is in the form of his life heading into Thursday’s clash at Anfield, yet for Tottenham defender Djed Spence, the former Middlesbrough defender is ready to take on the Egyptian international and to give him a difficult game.

Djed Spence backs himself to take on Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah

Spence stated that he backs himself to take on any winger in the world, regardless of their form or talent, in an interview with the Evening Standard. The £20 million Tottenham defender also talked about how confident he is in facing Salah.

Salah, a 32-year-old attacker, has experience breaking down Spurs’ defense after breaking two records against the team in the Premier League earlier this season when they met in December. Despite this, Spence has been talking a big game going into this week’s match.

In response to a question about playing Salah in this week’s League Cup semi-final, Spence stated: “I back myself against any winger, Salah or whoever.” I support myself against everyone. One of the best players is [Salah].

“He’s in good form also. You’ve just got to nullify what he’s good at it, really. He’s good at a lot of things, I just gotta stay focused on it and hopefully come out on top.”

Could Mohamed Salah be rested for Liverpool vs Tottenham?

With six games to play this February, Liverpool’s squad will once again be stretched to it’s maximum limit, with Salah’s fitness crucial if Arne Slot’s side are to go all the way in the League Cup as well as progress in the FA Cup and maintain their Premier League title bid.

Nonetheless, there is a genuine possibility that Salah will start against Tottenham before being rested for the journey to the West Country because Liverpool’s next match after facing Tottenham is away to Championship relegation contender Plymouth Argyle.

Slot’s goal is to keep Salah as healthy as possible for Liverpool’s crucial games this month if the Reds are to make history this season by winning the quadruple.
