Nevertheless, according to a report from The Athletic, Nico Elvedi, a long-term objective of the Wanderers, may become available during the January transfer window.

It states that “Nico Elvedi, a Switzerland international and one of the more established targets, remained with Borussia Monchengladbach and may still resurface as a possibility, even though his alluring summer release clause has now expired.”

Elvedi, who plays in the Bundesliga for Borussia Monchengladbach, has been scouted by Wolves in the past, but they have never taken advantage of the opportunity to recruit him, even though he has an £8.5 million release clause.

The 28-year-old might be a plausible defender they might sign in the upcoming transfer window, even if that clause has since expired.

Elvedi has been compared to Man City star John Stones

Elvedi is a defender with a wealth of experience who has made 266 appearances for Gladbach in the Bundesliga and gained notoriety for his skill with the ball.

The Bundesliga website has compared the Switzerland international’s skill in possession to that of Manchester City great John Stones.

In a three- or four-man defensive, the ball-playing defender can also play wide or centrally, which is similar to Stones.

O’Neil prefers his back line to feel at ease when in possession, and Elvedi seems to fit into a variety of systems with ease.

Elvedi’s defensive skills have previously been praised as “incredible,” and acquiring him in January might be crucial to survival.
